袁隆平逝世 Yuán Lóng Píng laid down his life

 

5月22日13时07分,“杂交水稻之父”袁隆平因多器官功能衰竭,在长沙逝世,享年  91岁。May 22th, 1pm 7 minutes, „the father of hybrid rice”Yuán Lóng Píng passed away in Chángshā because of multiple organ failure.

袁隆平是我国研究与发展杂交水稻的开创者,也是世界上第一个成功利用水稻杂种优势的科学家,被誉为杂交水稻之父。直到今年年初,他还坚持在海南三亚南繁基地开展科研工作。

Yuán Lóng Píng was a Chinese pioneer of research and development of hybrid rice.

He also was the first scientist throughout the world that successfully used the advantages of hybrid rice. He is known as "father of hybrid rice" . Until the beginning of this year, he still carried out scientific work at Hǎinán Sānyà research institute.

“搞科研要学会在此路不通时,考虑换一条路走,这非常重要。”袁隆平分享了自己的经验之谈。

"When doing scientific research, one needs to learn if one method does not work, consider walking another path, this is very important", Yuán Lóng Píng shared his experience in a discussion.

从1964年到1969年,袁隆平先后做了3000多个杂交组合的试验,但结果均达不到100%保持不育,理想的不育系培育进展不大。袁隆平苦思问题所在,他发现,这些年试验的材料,都是国内各地的栽培稻。那如果拉开亲缘距离,寻找野生稻呢?

From 1964 to 1969,  Yuán Lóng Píng successively made more than 3000 experiments about hybrid rice, but the results equally did not reach 100% to perserve sterility, the ideal steril line cultivation has made little progress. The question  Yuán Lóng Píng was thinking about was, he realized the experimental materials in these years all were coming from different cultivation areas in China. So what if opening the degree of botanic relationship, and searching for non-cultivated rice?

1973:我国在世界上首次培育成功强优势的籼型杂交水稻 1973: In China, long-grained hybrid rice was successfully cultivated for the first time worldwide

我国的籼型杂交水稻是完全依靠自己的力量培育成功的,是继水稻育种史上高秆变矮秆之后的又一次重大突破,标志着我国水稻育种发展到了一个新的水平。籼型杂交稻于1981年获得我国第一个国家特等发明奖。

In China long-grained hybrid rice was successfully cultivated that is entirely relying on his own strenth, it is again a major break through in the history of rice breeding after the change from long stalked to short stalked rice. This indicates China has reached a new level in the development of rice breeding. Long-grained hybrid rice recieved China's first special invention award in 1981.
